I have recently received the above email which at first glance I would know as a scam email designed to defraud gullible people to send in their details in exchange for the hope of gaining one million dollars.  Big promise. But it will give you nothing.  You  can even lose something by somebody stealing your identity and with that you can lose something that belongs to you.  

The world promises many things.  One of the temptations Jesus was subjected in the desert before he commenced his public ministry was the lure of the kingdoms of the world and their magnificence.  Matthew declares: Then the devil took him up to a very high mountain, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in their magnificence, and he said to him, "All these I shall give to you, if you will prostrate yourself and worship me." At this, Jesus said to him, "Get away, Satan! It is written: 'The Lord, your God, shall you worship and him alone shall you serve.' "  Matthew 4:8-10 (NAB)
 
God however has this big promise for us:  eternal life, salvation, share in God's own divine life.  And I don't even need to send in my identification details, nor my achievements, nor my title, nor my property; I just need to put my trust in his Son Jesus.  

You will never get an email from God, but he sends us his love letters all written in the Bible.  There we get a glimpse of the story of the people of God and his promises and his challenges for us.  

Lord God, thank you for your big promise of eternal life through your Son Jesus.  Help us to be true to his way and guide us so we may always find you in all the things that we do.  Amen.
