Giving is Living - Bro Terry J.

A Jewish leader asked Jesus,”good teacher, what must i do to receive eternal life?” “Why do you call me good?” Jesus asked him.”No one is good except god alone. You know the commandments:’do not commit adultery;do not commit murder;do not steal;do not accuse anyone falsely; respect your father and your mother.’” The man replied,”ever since I was young,I have obeyed all these commandments.” When Jesus heard this, he said to him, “ There is still one more thing you need to do. Sell all you have and give the money to the poor, and you will have riches in heaven; then come and follow me.” But when the man heard this,he became very sad, because he was very rich. Jesus saw that he was sad and said. “How hard it is for rich people to enter the kingdom of god!

It is much harder for a rich person to enter the kingdom of god than for a camel to go through the eye of a needle.”

I’m sitting in front of the T.V.  And an advertisement for NRMA came on, you know the one. The child is on the swing and dad is pushing her while she cries out  “higher- higher” until she goes right around and kicks dad in the back and mum cries out , “ do it again       do it again.”

It made me think of another story I had heard or read.

A little suburban church was having a homecoming celebration to which all past members who had moved away were invited. One of these was a man who had become very successful over the years and was now a multi millionaire. When the current Priest and organizer asked this man to speak, the wealthy man recounted his childhood experience in the parish. He had earned his first ten dollars which he carried in his pocket everywhere. He had decided to keep that one forever. But one day a visiting Priest from the missions came and was fundraising so he could continue his work in his mission. Inside the young boy a fight began, give to the mission…… no keep the money you worked hard for it.

Finally the plate arrived in front of him.  Decision time.  He gave to the mission.

The wealthy man said I am convinced that the reason God has blessed me richly is that when I was a boy I gave God everything I possessed.

The congregation was spellbound by the multi-millionaires tremendous statement, until a little old man in the front row stood up and said, “Hey brother I dare you, why don’t you do it again?”

Giving is living:  How are you going? Are you living?
